Extortion In Rivers State: Nigeria Police Police Moves to flush out corrupt cops involved in kidnapping, robbery

The Nigeria Police Force intensifies its internal cleansing campaign with the dismissal, arrest, and planned prosecution of officers linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, extortion, and abuse of office in Rivers State.

A statement by the Force Headquarters says the affected officers betrayed the ethics and professional standards of policing, stressing that the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, remains committed to exposing and flushing out criminal elements within the system.

Investigations uncovered a syndicate involving officers attached to Zone 16 Headquarters, Yenagoa, who allegedly carried out illegal stop-and-search operations in Port Harcourt, abducted victims, and forced them to transfer millions of naira through banking and cryptocurrency applications.

It adds that Police recovers three Toyota Sienna buses and more than seven million naira linked to the crimes, while some suspects are still at large.

In a separate operation, five officers formerly attached to the Rivers State Command were dismissed over alleged involvement in organised kidnapping, extortion, and stealing.

The Nigeria Police Force says all implicated personnel will face prosecution, while members of the public are encouraged to report cases of police misconduct and human rights violations through official complaint channels.
