Governor Fubara withdraws from Rivers APC governorship primaries, give reasons
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the APC governorship primaries ahead of the 2026 Rivers State gubernatorial election.
In a statement released on May 20, 2026, Fubara said his decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates. He explained that he stepped aside in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in Rivers State.
The governor stated that leadership requires sacrifice and stressed that Rivers State is bigger than any personal ambition. He also pledged his support for whoever emerges as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Governor Fubara thanked his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices throughout the political process and appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support.
He maintained that his withdrawal was not out of fear or weakness but out of conviction and commitment to the peace and progress of Rivers State.
