Alleged cybercrime: Court grants Sowore N200m bail

The Federal High Court Abuja presided by Justice Mohammed Umar, has granted a N200 million bail and two sureties in like sum to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.

Justice Umar in a ruling ordered that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community and the other must have a landed property in Abuja.

The sureties must also be verified by the prosecution.

The court further ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the deputy chief registrar of the court.

Justice Umar, also handed Sowore over to his lawyers and adjourned the case to Monday, July 6th, for him to open his defence.

Sowore is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services, DSS, over allegations that he made false claims against President Tinubu by describing him as “a criminal” in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts.

At the close of proceedings on June 24, the court fixed June 30 for the continuation of the matter, with expectations that arguments and pending applications may be further addressed when the case resumes.

Recall, the court had also revoked the bail earlier granted to Sowore on self-recognition in December 2025 and ordered his remand in the Kuje Correctional Centre following his absence at the previous proceedings.
