Trump administration names 124 Nigerians for deportation

US President Donald Trump’s administration has placed 124 Nigerians on a deportation list as part of its intensified immigration enforcement campaign targeting undocumented migrants convicted of serious crimes.

This was disclosed in a statement published on Wednesday by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which said the Nigerians were included on what it described as its “worst-of-the-worst” criminal register.

According to the department, the listed individuals were arrested by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and are among non-citizens facing removal from the United States under the administration’s mass deportation policy.

“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is highlighting the worst of worst criminal aliens arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),” the statement said.

It added, “Under DHS leadership, the hardworking men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations – starting with the worst of the worst.”

While the department published the names and photographs of the 124 Nigerians, it did not disclose the specific offences for which they were convicted or the timeline for their deportation.

The latest action forms part of the Trump administration’s broader immigration crackdown launched after the President returned to office on January 20, 2025.

On his first day back in office, Trump signed executive orders declaring illegal immigration a national emergency and directing federal agencies to intensify border security and accelerate the deportation of undocumented migrants, particularly those considered threats to public safety and national security.

Recall, Nigeria has also faced increased scrutiny under the administration. In June, the United States imposed partial visa restrictions on Nigerian citizens, citing concerns over identity management, information sharing, visa overstay rates and security screening.
