Akwa Ibom secures 10 additional CNG buses , 20 more still expected

Akwa Ibom State Government has taken delivery of 10 additional CNG buses bringing the total number so far received to 30.

Governor Umo Eno had earlier on June 29 taken delivery of the first batch of 20 buses with a promise that the remaining 30 will arrive in batches of ten each, until the last arrival in August.

The ten new CNG buses which came into Uyo, Sunday evening, were received by the Commissioners for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke, Information, Dr Aniekan Umanah, Delivery Adviser for Transport, Hon. Orman Esin, Chairman of AKICORP, Pastor Imoabasi Jacob, the General Manager of Ibom Entrepreneurial Development, Mr Ime Uwah, the SSA to the Governor on Research, Dr Essien Ndueso and the SA to the Governor on Transport, Aniefiok George.

Speaking to reporters, Commissioner for Information Aniekan Umanah, said the Governor was a promise keeper who was bent on making life more meaningful for his people.

He thanked God for the safe arrival of the new batch of buses and assured that the Governor will fulfill his promise for a new efficient and effective transportation system in the State.

With the coming of the new terminal for the CNG buses and all its accompaniments, and all the sub terminal stations across the 31 Local Government areas, we are in for a great deal in public transportation in Akwa Ibom.

“So many people in other states have celebrated these buses thinking they belong to their states, and that is kudos for Akwa Ibom.”

A visibly excited Commissioner for Transport Anthony Luke said“His Excellency had promised that on July 17, the next batch of buses will be on ground, and today the ten more buses are here with us.

“I thank His Excellency the Governor for being intentional in his programmes for all residents in Akwa Ibom.

“These buses will ease the stress in transportation in the State and we thank the Governor for finding us fit to be in his workaholic team.”

Mr Orman Esin said the aim of the Govenor is to revolutionize the transport sector and thanked him for his vision in the sector.

Also speaking, Pastor ImoAbasi Jacob said beyond the convenience and cheaper cost of transportation for residents, the new bus service will add to the aesthetics of the State making it more attractive to tourists and investors.

He said the system will involve e-ticketing for the passengers as there will be no cash transactions with the bus drivers.

“Swipe cards will be available for passengers online or at the terminals. We are still working out the modalities, don’t forget the State now has the Ibom Urban Transport Company which is fully registered.
