Mary Habila: Family reveals cause of death

The family of Mary Habila , 25-year-old nurse, may have laid to rest controversy surrounding her death after disclosing she died of cardiac arrest.

This reveal came to light as she was buried at her hometown of Nok, Jaba LGA of Kaduna state on Friday.

Habila died on June 27, 2026, at the Uburu, Ebonyi State residence of Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi.

Her death sparked a nationwide controversy, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding it.

According to a biography included in a burial programme produced by her family, the deceased nurse was diagnosed with a hole in the heart.

She was said to have undergone medical treatment after her condition became critical but died of cardiac arrest despite treatment and prayers.

The biography reads, “Mary Habila lived with a heart condition, having been diagnosed with a hole in her heart. Though she faced significant health challenges, she carried herself with courage, faith, and quiet resilience.

“She remained hopeful and continued to touch the lives of those around her with her kindness, strength, and gentle spirit. Despite medical care and the prayers and support of her family and loved ones, her condition became critical. She sadly passed away following a cardiac arrest, leaving behind a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

“Though her life was cut short, Mary will always be remembered for her strength in the face of adversity, the love she shared, and the lasting impact she made on everyone blessed to know her. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
