ADC chieftain tells Tinubu to resign, berate vacation abroad

Ladan Salifu, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, accusing his administration of paying greater attention to political power and the 2027 election than the welfare of Nigerians.

Salifu on Monday made the call during an interview with ARISE News, where he criticised Tinubu’s latest foreign trip amid concerns over worsening economic hardship and insecurity across the country.

The ADC chieftain said the President should be more concerned about addressing the challenges confronting Nigerians rather than travelling abroad to recover from the demands of office.

Responding to the explanation that Tinubu travelled to recharge after months of intense engagement on security and economic matters, Salifu said the President should instead reconsider his continued stay in office.

“What Sunday Dare should advise his principal to do is not to go abroad and recharge, but to go abroad and sober up and resign.”

Salifu accused the Tinubu administration of failing to deliver the “renewed hope” promised to Nigerians, citing rising hunger, poverty, starvation and insecurity.

He also questioned the timing of the President’s foreign trip, particularly against the backdrop of another increase in petrol prices.

The price of petrol has risen from about ₦1,200 to ₦1,310 per litre in some locations, while motorists in some other parts of the country are paying even more.

According to Salifu, the latest increase has added to the financial pressure on households already struggling with rising living costs.

He argued that Tinubu’s decision to travel while Nigerians contend with worsening economic conditions reflected misplaced priorities.

Salifu, maintained that the President should focus on improving living conditions and addressing insecurity rather than preparations for the 2027 election.

The ADC chieftain’s criticism comes as political parties and opposition figures increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election, with economic hardship, fuel prices, insecurity and the performance of the Tinubu administration expected to feature prominently in political debates.
