World Cup: Yamal’s house targeted after Spain’s cruise to final
A break-in attempt has been reported at the Barcelona home of Spain forward Lamine Yamal, just hours after the teenage sensation helped La Roja secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final with a commanding victory over France.
According to Catalan regional police, two masked suspects attempted to break into a property in Esplugues de Llobregat, on the outskirts of Barcelona, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Confirming the incident, a spokesperson for the Mossos d’Esquadra said an attempted burglary had taken place but declined to identify the homeowner for privacy reasons.
“There was an attempted burglary at a home in Esplugues de Llobregat in Barcelona’s outskirts,” the police spokesperson said.
However, Barcelona-based newspaper La Vanguardia reported that the property belongs to the 19-year-old Spain international.
According to the report, the two suspects, wearing balaclavas, climbed the perimeter wall of the residence but were confronted by private security personnel before they could gain access. They fled the scene immediately without stealing any property.
The newspaper noted that the luxury residence is widely recognised because it was previously owned by former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué and Colombian music star Shakira during their time together in the Catalan city.
The attempted break-in came only hours after Spain defeated France 2-0 in Dallas to book a place in Sunday’s World Cup final.
Yamal played a decisive role in the victory, winning the first-half penalty that Mikel Oyarzabal converted to give Spain the lead before Pedro Porro sealed the triumph in the second half.
The incident adds to a growing list of burglaries targeting high-profile footballers in Spain. In recent years, several stars, including Karim Benzema, Rodrygo and Dani Carvajal, have all fallen victim to break-ins at their homes.
No arrest has been reported by authorities, while investigations into the attempted burglary are continuing.
