Oyo APC chieftain joins Makinde

Hon. Olumide Akinola, popularly known as Olumba, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “a golden casket” as he announced his defection to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) alongside hundreds of supporters.

Olumba who is the founder of the Olumba Socio-Political Forum (OSPF), made the remark on Friday at the campaign office of Oyo State APM governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, in Jericho, Ibadan, where members of the APC, Accord Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) formally joined the APM.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the former APC member said the decision to dump the ruling opposition party was based on conviction and the need to align with a leader capable of sustaining Oyo State’s developmental strides.

Describing the APC as lacking internal cohesion and genuine love among its members, Olumba said the party’s outward appearance did not reflect its internal reality.

“The APC is like a golden casket that looks beautiful from the outside but has a very bad structure. There is no genuine love and unity within the party,” he said.

He said the decision to join the APM was influenced by Adekanmbi’s humility, competence and leadership qualities.

“When you are talking about humility, this man is humble. Talking about capability, we all know he is capable. From his records and profile, we know he has what it takes to govern Oyo State,” he stated.

Olumba appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for his achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, workers’ welfare and prompt payment of salaries, expressing confidence that Adekanmbi would consolidate on the administration’s achievements if elected in 2027.

“There’s no vacancy in Oyo State. We believe there will be continuity, and we want to contribute our own quota to the development of the state through the APM,” he added.
