LP SWC visits Joe Eze Aru, seeks teamwork, consolidation ahead of 2027

In continuation of its strategic engagement with leaders and stakeholders of the Labour Party across Abia State, the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Labour Party, Abia State Chapter, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to former Mayor of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Chief Joe Eze Aru, at his country home in Ihechiwa, Arochukwu Local Government Area.

The visit, which was private but significant, forms part of the ongoing efforts by the newly elected State Working Committee to strengthen internal cohesion within the party, deepen stakeholder engagement, harmonize leadership structures across all levels, and ensure that all leaders of the party key into the new roadmap for the growth and advancement of the Labour Party in Abia State.

Speaking during the visit, members of the State Working Committee took turns to appreciate Chief Joe Eze Aru for his unwavering commitment, loyalty, and support to the Labour Party over the years.

The State Secretary of the Party, Barr. Chuks Akamadu, commended Chief Joe for his steadfast dedication to the ideals of the Labour Party and for his continued support, particularly following the recent Labour Party Leaders and Stakeholders Meeting held in the State.

Similarly, the Vice Chairman of Labour Party, Abia North Zone, Barr. Prince Chigoziem, and the State Women Leader, Hon. Elizabeth Udo Kalu, applauded Chief Joe Eze Aru for his leadership qualities and contributions towards strengthening the party in Arochukwu and Abia State in general.

They urged him to continue providing guidance, mentorship, timely interventions, and valuable advice whenever necessary as the party prepares for greater electoral victories ahead.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, emphasized the urgent need for unity, cooperation, and collective responsibility among all party leaders and stakeholders.

Hon. Azubuike stated that the burden of sustaining and growing the Labour Party in Abia State must not be left solely on the shoulders of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, stressing that every leader of the party has a role to play in ensuring the continued success of the party and the consolidation of good governance in the State.

According to him, the current administration of Governor Alex C. Otti has demonstrated that purposeful leadership and people oriented governance are possible, noting that the visible transformation taking place across Abia State has further strengthened the bond between the Labour Party and the people.

He expressed confidence that if the Labour Party could emerge victorious in 2023 when it was not in power, the party is even better positioned to record overwhelming victories in 2027 because Abians have now experienced the dividends of good governance firsthand.

The State Chairman further disclosed that the SWC is currently focused on revitalizing party structures at the ward, local government, and zonal levels to ensure that every arm of the party remains active, responsive, and effective.

“Our mission is to build a stronger and more united Labour Party. We want all our leaders actively involved in the affairs of the party. This administration of the SWC will not tolerate complacency or inactivity,” Hon. Azubuike stated.

Responding, Chief Joe Eze Aru expressed profound appreciation to the State Working Committee for the visit and for considering him worthy of being among the first party leaders to be consulted after the inauguration of the new leadership.

He disclosed that after the emergence of the current SWC, he took time to carefully study the backgrounds and capacities of the newly elected officers and was impressed by the calibre of individuals entrusted with the responsibility of leading the party.

According to him, the composition of the current State Working Committee inspires confidence and hope for the future of the Labour Party in Abia State.

“It is only a blind man that will refuse to work with this current State Working Committee. From my findings and interactions, I am convinced that the party is in safe hands,” Chief Joe Eze Aru stated.

He further advised the leadership of the party to remain committed to transparency, fairness, and internal democracy, warning against the imposition of candidates or manipulation of party processes by any individual regardless of status or influence.

Chief Joe assured the party leadership of his continued support and commitment, emphasizing that all stakeholders must work together to ensure that the Labour Party records a landslide victory in future elections.

He also announced plans to formally host the State Working Committee through the Labour Party structure in Arochukwu Local Government Area in the near future.

The visit ended on a convivial note with songs, camaraderie, and expressions of appreciation for the transformational leadership and developmental strides of Governor Alex Otti across Abia State.

The Labour Party remains committed to fostering unity, strengthening its structures, and mobilizing all stakeholders towards the continued growth of the party and the advancement of Abia State.
